A Gilmore Girls Weekend in Litchfield County
Fall is in the air, and every year mothers and daughters from across the country make their way to northwest Connecticut for a little Gilmore Girls magic.
This weekend, The Flirt is welcoming a mother and her two daughters who are flying in for their own Stars Hollow-inspired getaway. It feels like the perfect time to share a few of the local connections that make this area so special for fans of the show.
The story starts in Washington, Connecticut, where Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino stayed at the Mayflower Inn. The town’s warmth, charm and sense of community helped inspire the fictional world of Stars Hollow.
Today, fans visit the Mayflower to see where the magic began, stop for coffee at Marty’s Café, browse The Hickory Stick Bookshop and pop into Five Janes for Gilmore Girls gifts.
The Mayflower connection became especially memorable last year when local florist Brenda Christie of Bouquets & Beyond filled the inn’s library with yellow daisies for a Gilmore Girls-inspired engagement. The flowers were a nod to Max Medina’s famous proposal to Lorelai, complete with the “thousand yellow daisies” moment fans still remember.
New Milford has become another favorite stop. Its historic Green and bandstand feel instantly familiar to Gilmore Girls fans, and the town hosted “A Weekend in the Life” fan event in September 2025.
And there is a new local connection. Rachel’s Kitchen in Woodbury recently shared that a Gilmore Girls producer told the restaurant it was an inspiration for Luke’s Diner.
From The Flirt, it is easy to create your own Stars Hollow-inspired weekend. Coffee. Bookshops. Small-town streets. A little shopping. Plenty of scenic Connecticut roads.
Then come home to Lake Waramaug.
Stars Hollow may be fictional. Around here, the feeling is very real.
